Teacher

Marie is a certified K-8 teacher in Ontario with a private practice in remedial reading at The Reading Room, now located in her home in Colborne, Ontario.

She has trained in the remedial PhonoGraphix Program with Read America, the children’s Discover Reading Program in Calgary, and the Association Method for Language Deficient Children.

As a reading/writing specialist, Marie has worked with many children teaching them reading, writing, and spelling skills that have greatly enhanced their abilities to read and work at grade level in their classrooms.

Writer

Marie’s mid-grade children’s novel The Girl From the Attic was The Uncommon Quest 2019 Silver Winner at Common Deer Press and was released in October 2020.

In the autumn of 2021, Marie released “Grammy’s Mittens,” a children’s Christmas story about love and loss.  It is available in Volume 3 of the Canadian, online magazine Cloud Lake Literary .

In October 2019, Marie’s story of her grandmother’s early life and departure from The Netherlands A Shared Name, an Unshared Life was published in the anthology Hill Spirits IV by Blue Denim Press.

Marie’s poetry has won awards in the Cramahe Library’s poetry contests. Winning entries can be read under Writing.

Marie is a member of the Spirit of the Hills Writer’s Group, CANSCAIP, the Canadian Children’s Book Centre, and the Society of Children’s Writers and Illustrators.
